How to Invite Co-Owners and Family Members to Your Shared Vacation Home
Once your shared vacation property is set up in OurSharedPlace, the next step is getting the rest of your family or co-ownership group on board. There are two paths — pick whichever fits your group.
If you know the email addresses of every co-owner, send personal invitations. If you'd rather post a code into a group chat and let people self-serve, generate a join code instead.
Step-by-step
- 1
Open the Members tab on your property
Navigate to your property and open the Members tab. As an admin you'll see two options near the top: Invite Member and Generate Join Code.
- 2
Option A — Invite by email
Click Invite Member, enter the person's email, first and last name, and pick a role: Administrator, Member, or Guest. They get an email with a one-click join link. Invitations expire after 7 days.
- Administrators can manage members, approve bookings, edit property settings.
- Members can request bookings, post on the blog, upload photos.
- Guests get view-only access — perfect for extended family or a sitter.

Option B — Share a join code
Click Generate Join Code. OurSharedPlace creates a short code you can paste into a family text thread. Anyone with the code can sign up, add themselves to the property, and pick a starter role (which you can adjust later).

Adjust roles after the fact
From the Members tab you can promote a member to Admin, demote an Admin to Member, or remove someone entirely. Membership changes are immediate and the affected person is notified by email.
Tips
- If your shared vacation home has more than four owners, designate at least two Administrators so booking approvals don't bottleneck on one person.
- Save Guest role for non-owners — house cleaners, neighbors who watch the property, or family who only stay occasionally.
