How to Block Out Maintenance Dates on Your Vacation Property Calendar
Septic pump-outs, roof repairs, deep cleans, paint jobs — every shared vacation home has stretches of the year that shouldn't be bookable. OurSharedPlace lets administrators add maintenance blocks directly to the calendar so members can't request those dates by accident.
Step-by-step
- 1
Open the calendar in admin view
From your property dashboard, open the Calendar tab. As an admin you'll see a 'New Block' option alongside the regular booking buttons.
- 2
Create a maintenance block
Click New Block, choose the start and end dates, and add a note (e.g. 'Septic pump-out', 'Roof repair', 'Deep clean'). Save.
- 3
Confirm members can't book it
Maintenance blocks render in a distinct color on the calendar so they're obviously different from member bookings. When a member tries to request overlapping dates, OurSharedPlace blocks the request and explains why.
- 4
Edit or remove a block
Click the block on the calendar to extend it, shorten it, or remove it entirely. Changes are immediate.
Tips
- Add long-running maintenance blocks well in advance so members know not to plan around them.
- Use a maintenance block (not a regular booking) when no one is staying — it keeps the booking history clean for fairness analysis at year-end.
